A Roman enamelled copper alloy zoomorphic plate brooch in the form of a fish. The body of the fish has blue and red enamelling in recessed cells; with a central teardrop shaped area of nested chevrons of red enamel suggesting scales which is surrounded by a field of blue enamel. The head has a crescent of red enamel for the gill operculum, with a red enamel annulet eye in front. The plate has two small projecting triangular fins towards the tail on the dorsal and ventral sides with a smaller projection for the pectoral fin at the front. The tail is triangular and has been bent forwards. The reverse has a hinge lug retaining a copper alloy spring. There is a catchplate at the head end. Circa 2nd century AD.
