An incomplete copper alloy Early Medieval small square headed brooch, c.470-550 AD.

This object consists of a rectangular head, bow, part of the foot, and the remains of the spring and clasp. The head is decorated by a rectangular raised border enclosing a raised rectangular block. The bow is slightly curved in profile and in its front face it is decorated with two longitudinal flutes, which are flanked by raised outer edges and a shared central rib. The footplate is roughly square-shaped in plan and is possibly decorated with engraved animal heads. The inner panel of the foot has two raised lines, which form the top half of a lozenge-shaped field. The back face of the head plate bears a worn lug and a worn clasp. The front plate bears remnants of gilding; there is corrosion all over the object.
