An incomplete silver-plated contemporary copy of a denarius of Caracalla (AD 198-217) with a reverse typical to Julia Domna (AD 193-211), dating to c. AD 198-200 (Reece Period 10), PIETAS PVBLICA, Pietas standing left at altar, raising both arms. Prototype Mint of Rome. RIC IV, pt 1, p. 170, cf. no. 574 (reverse). The obverse legend, ANTONINVS PIVS AVG is rarely used (see RIC IV, pt 1, p. 220, nos. 54-55A). Note that RIC does include a hybrid of this reverse with an obverse of Geta (RIC IV, pt 1, p. 316, no. 14).
Die axis is 6 o'clock. Weight is2.74g, diameter is 19.5mm, thickness is 2.4mm.
Traces of the base metal core are visible on the reverse, especially to the left of Pietas.
