A near complete cast copper alloy and gilded horse-harness pendant dating to the Medieval period.
The pendant's main body is trefoil, with three rounded panels separated by triangular points between. The loop extends from the apex of one of the petals and is set at 90 degrees to the body. It is pierced by a circular hole, the front edge of which is missing due to an old break.
The main body has moulded decoration in the form of a face looking forward with two clear eyes made of two raised oval each, a mouth and forehead. A large moustache extends below the eyes which on each side has at least five fronds extending in a floral pattern. The mount is a dull green colour with traces of gilding on the front surface.
The pendant is 32.3mm long, 24.8mm wide, 5.3mm thick and weighs 10.67g.
A harness pendant with a face is also recorded on the database at NMS-630671, and given a suggested Medieval date. The ornament resembles a Green Man.
