A worn silver Roman Republican 'Legionary' denarius of Mark Antony, dating to 32-31 BC (Reece period 1). LEG XIII reverse type depicting two standards, with aquila between. Travelling mint moving with Antony. cf. RRC p. 541, no. 544/27


Mark Antony issued the 'legionary' denarii from a travelling mint, possibly in Greece, to pay his fleet and legions in the build up to conflict with Octavian (Augustus), which culminated in the Battle of Actium on the 2nd of September, 31 BC (Grueber, 1970, 526).
