A cast lead spindle whorl, of Walton Rogers form A2, dating from the Early Medieval period, about AD 700 - 850. It has two flat faces of uneven size, and angled sides. There is a central, circular perforation of internal diameter of 6mm. It is not decorated. The diameter is 20.5mm, thickness 7.8mm and the weight is 36.23g.
Walton Rogers suggests that form A2 whorls date from AD 700 - 1100, and that a central perforation of 6-9mm can indicate an Early to mid-Saxon date. There are many examples on the PAS Database including SWYOR-BEE443.
