Corroded copper alloy single piece Medieval buckle plate. The plate consists of a single strip folded transversely 180 degrees around the strap bar remnant of an iron buckle; a central rectangular slot is removed from the bent end of the plate to accommodate the now missing pin. Adjacent to the pin slot on either side of the front plate are single circular iron corrosion encrusted rivet holes, the reverse side of the folded plate extends far enough to be pierced by these rivets but then finishes short of the front plate in a triangular shaped terminal. The end of the longer front plate has what appear to be two sub square holes on on either side of the plate, one complete but the other cut across by damage. Neither of these holes show any evidence of iron rust staining. There is no patina to speak of, the surface being bright green from copper corrosion with iron rust staining concentrated around the rivet holes and pin slot. Circa AD1200-1400.
