A complete gold annular brooch of Medieval date, c.AD 1200-1350. The brooch frame is circular in both plan and section with no constriction for the pin. The outer surface of the brooch frame is inscribed with + A + G + L + A. The reverse of the brooch frame is undecorated. A tapering circular sectioned pin remains fitted around the frame by a closed loop with a cross bar at the junction between the loop and pin proper. The top of the cross bar is grooved, giving a ruffled appearance. The underside of the cross bar is undecorated. There is a small indentation at the narrow end of the pin on its underside.

Discussion
Similar annular brooches which include an AGLA inscription include: IOW-B09925, CAM-69867A, WILT-328649, HAMP-D9F4BC, LVPL-560317, and SUR-099F44. In those records they state that the letters AGLA represent an abbreviation of a Hebrew saying; "Ata gibor le'olam Adonai" (You are mighty forever, O Lord), which was a popular charm used in the Middle Ages used to fend off fevers (J. P. Robinson, 2007 Treasure Annual Report, page 124, no.247).
The Portable Antiquities Scheme Finds Recording Guide for Brooches states that decorated annular brooches of this form are typical of the 13th century and could run into the 14th century.
Conclusion:
In terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
