A medieval silver continental imitation of a Long Cross pence  of Henry III (1216-72), possibly under William of Holland and dating c.1248-56 (see notes), mint: Boppard (Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany). Ref: North 1995: 88 (footnote 27), 102, no.44.

The coin is struck off-centre, and worn or poorly struck making parts of the inscription illegible.

Obverse description: Bust facing forward holding sceptre; obverse inscription: hENRICVS [REX] III
Reverse description: Voided long cross with three pellets in each angle; reverse inscription: G.BO/PAR/DEN/[SIS]

Notes:

This reverse die was used with 3 different obverses, two equating to Long Cross Class 3 (or their imitations) and one paired with a Class 5 (North 1995: 88. no. 44)

The attribution to Boppard in the Lower Rhinleland was made 'with some certainty' by Lord Stewartby, possibly under William of Holland (1248-56) (North 1995: 88, 102), although it was noted that the town is outside the normal area known to produce Long Cross imitations.
