A probable counterfeit coin; the copper alloy core of a plated copy of a shilling of Edward VI, dating from AD 1547 - 1550 (Coinage in own name, first or second period). The coin is in very poor condition, but the crowned bust right and the oval garnished shield are visible, as is REX in the obverse legend and M:D:XL in the reverse legend. The object is 28.7mm in diameter, 0.7mm thick and weighs 2.39g. See North Volume 2, number 1896 or 1918 - 1925.
