A complete moulded copper alloy stud or mount, in the form of a lion head. Roman (AD 43-200). It is circular in plan, with a pyramid section, and hollow back face. The front face comprises an undecorated outer platform, rising to a second platform containing numerous single lines radiating outwards to represent the lion's mane. From this rises a central projection in the form of a lion's face with open mouth. On the chin are three incised lines prossibly representing teeth. From the left and right corners of the mouth are two lines each to represent whiskers. The right eye is represented by a ring with a central dot. The left eye appears like a closed eye, possibly from an error in manufacture. On the forehead is an iron rivet which corresponds with an iron rivet in the reverse and likely pierces through. The reverse of the stud is undecorated. In the centre is the iron stud, now corroded. The internal edge of the reverse is of varying width caused by crude casting.
