A complete copper alloy stud or mount dating to the late Medieval to Post Medieval periods (c. AD 1400-1750). The stud head is circular and domed, with a concave underside. the head has been sent our of shape. At the centre of the underside is an integral square-sections shank that tapers to a sharp point. The shank has been bent to one side but remains intact. The surface of the stud has a mottled light green to brown patina.
For a comparable example see PAS record WAW-3F6CC7. See also Margeson (1993: 83) nos 526 and 531. These example have been dated to the 15th to 18th centuries and thier suggested purpose is for furnishings or horse harnesses.
The overall dimensions are as follows: 10.74mm in length, 11.12mm in diameter and 0.74g in weight.
