An incomplete medieval silver hammered penny of King Stephen (AD 1135-1154), of Watford type (c. AD 1136-1145). Uncertain mint and moneyer. North, 1994, I, p. 203, no. 873. BMC i. It is from the original dies of Stephen type 1 (N. 873).
Obverse: The coin is very worn and so very little can be made out of the obverse face.
Obverse legend: The legend will be some variety of +STIEFNE (REX).
Reverse: Cross moline with fleurs in angles.
Reverse legend: Only the starting cross can be made out with any accuracy. +[O?][ ]A[ ]
It measures 18.61mm in diameter, 0.78mm in thickness, and weighs 1.11g.
