Fragment of the tip of a medieval copper-alloy composite strap end with a central spacer and a fully-rounded acorn-shaped finial. The longest extant part is the central spacer, which is rectangular in cross-section, runs through the middle of the acorn and terminates in a worn break about fourteen millimetres further on. It emerges from the acorn as a narrow neck which expands in width at first gently and then sharply (step-like) to reach its widest extent. Here it is very briefly parallel-edged before tapering concavely towards the break.
Plano-convex cast pieces are fixed (perhaps soldered) to the front and rear of the spacer at the acorn finial to complete its roundness. Flat plates emerge from these and, as far as they survive, follow the profile of the spacer. They are thinner than the spacer and both terminate in worn breaks: one at four and the other at ten millimetres from the acorn.
The cup of the acorn is decorated with moulded oblique grooves which do not cross each other but cover and obscure the join between the three parts. There is also a very small circular-cross-sectioned projecting tip at the end.
