Post-medieval copper-alloy mount in the shape of a stylised scallop shell and an integral tri-lobed or trefoil element, with two integral attachment spikes on the reverse. Both the shell and the trefoil are flat on the reverse and marginally convex on the front. The shell is near semi-circular and some of its edge has been lost to wear and abrasion. It is marked by five linear grooves, three of which radiate from the centre and the other two from an off-centre position. The trefoil emerges from the centre of the flat edge of the shell. Its lateral foils are separated from the shell by wedge-shaped grooves.
The spikes are circular sectioned and terminate in blunt, possibly incomplete points. They are arranged longitudinally and both are bent in the direction of the trefoil end. Parallels on this database include SOM-DB0947, SF-74FC71, and IOW-50D0A6. 16th or 17th century.
