A cast lead possible ingot, probably of Post Medieval date, AD 1700 - 1900.
The object is cylindrical, has a wider circular base and tapers to an unevenly convex top. The base has a sub-oval deep indentation in the centre and the sides have small circular dimples like the pits on a thimble. The ingot has a white patina.
Measurements: diameter of base: 14.06mm; height: 15.19 mm; weight: 17.10g
Discussion: This object was found in close association with another similar example recorded as SUSS-09C849. Both objects were probably created using a thimble to make a mould in which to make small ingots for the easier storage of waste lead. SWYOR-E0B334 is a similar example on the database which goes on to note other lead ingots made in household objects such as SWYOR-44F1AF made in a spoon, and LEIC-5FF5F8 made by creating a mould with a human finger. It is possible the object was also used as a gaming peice.
