A cast lead spindle whorl of Walton Rogers form A2, probably dating from the Early Medieval period, about AD 700 - 850. It is circular in plan with a flat base and curved sides with a smaller flat second face. It has a light cream patina and is 22.9mm in diameter and 6.6mm thick. It has a central, circular perforation of internal diameter 5.6mm and weighs 17.3g.
Walton Rogers suggests that form A2 whorls date from AD 700 - 1100, but that a central perforation of 6-9mm may indicate an Early to Middle Saxon date.
