UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT

Unique ID: LIN-DF1763

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Copper alloy unidentified object. The object is spherical when viewed from the side, with an integral suspension loop at the top. The interior is hollow, and around the object are four circular openings, each decorated by a single incised perimeter. These openings make the object look square when viewed from above. The base of the object has no opening or decoration. The surface of the object is worn, particularly around the edges of the four openings. The object may have served as a strap junction, or perhaps as a steelyard weight. The field from which it came has produced predominantly Roman artefacts.
