An incomplete small copper-alloy single looped D-shaped buckle. Meols Type 2, dating from AD 1250 to AD 1350.
The buckle frame is complete along with the pin. the buckle plate is missing, presumed lost in antiquity. The loop is sub oval in plan, with a thickened and expanded outside edge. The strap bar is narrowed and off-set. Knops are present at either end of the strap bar. The buckle frame is plain and undecorated. The buckle frame is a dark green colour. The pin, although present, is worn and has a slightly reduced length from the original.
Measurements are :- 16.03mm in length, 12.05mm wide. It has a thickness of 2.96mm (the strap bar is 1.59 mm thick). It weighs 1.6 grams.
Similar single looped D shaped buckles have been illustrated by Whitehead (1996) on page 19, in particular no.53 and no.54. Other examples of this type of buckle frame have been recorded on the database, including LVPL-1AC5CE and YORYM-613CF1.
