An incomplete cast copper-alloy Early Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) small long brooch dating to the period AD 450-480. The brooch comprises the head and bow. The foot, catch plate and pin are missing.

The head consists of a flat trefoil plate with three arms. The arms are in cross pattée style, projecting from a central sub-rectangular plate before narrowing and widening again to expanded outer edges. The front face of the head is decorated with stamped ring and dot motif; one in the centre and one on each of the ams, approximately where they narrow. The outer edges of the arms are decorated with a single linear groove. The bow of the brooch extends from the lower edge of the head. This is semi-oval in cross-section and is C-shape in profile. The upper-bow is decorated just below the head with two transverse grooves. The lower bow is broken at the base by an old worn and rounded transverse break.

The reverse of the brooch is flat and undecorated. At the centre of the head are the remains of a flat semi-circular pin attachment.

The brooch has an even mid-green patina.

The brooch measures 40mm long, 22.5mm wide, 3.5mm thick and weighs 7 grams.

For a broadly similar small long brooch with ring and dot motif recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database, see KENT-372B34.
