A complete, copper alloy sewing ring of Medieval or early Post-Medieval date, AD 1400 - 1600. The ring is chunky, and is straight sided from the base towards the open top. The outer surface is decorated with five rows of circular pits. The pits are not all evenly spaced and are irregular. There is a faint guide line at the top, across the uppermost pits, and there is a groove round the base, containing the lowest pits. The diameter is 24.2mm, It is 15.9mm high and weighs 14.8g. It has a brassy colour.
Similar thimbles are recorded on the database, see for example references SWYOR-FFA36E and LIN-B42ABC. The finds recording guide for thimbles (https://finds.org.uk/counties/findsrecordingguides/textile-equipment/#Medieval_ring-type_thimbles) suggests this type is dated to the late medieval or early post medieval period.
