Squashed lead vessel, possibly a holy water container from a church. It is complete with a straight-sided body (flat back and semi-circular front) and flaring neck. The area below the neck is decorated with three deep grooves, the reverse with three lead stripes. There is an edge in the lower part of the body where it possibly fit into a semicircular fitting, perhaps a horizonal metal strap. This strap would hold the lead vessel in place at the pillar.

Several explanation for these vessels have been put forward and the most likely, in this case, seems to be that it was a vessel for holy water, placed inside a church. The explanation would seem suitable, since it was found near the ruins of an old church.
