Lead unidentified object fragment. Part of a D-section strip bearing seven low 3mm] knobs projecting from the middle of its convex surface. A V-shaped notch abuts the last knob at one end; the other end is narrowed and probably melted. Now coiled and patinated. Similar objects are occasionally reported, though no satisfactory identification has been offered: the knobs might engage a mechanism, to which a soft metal seems unsuited, or engage an even softer material as a fastener, which would be insecure for the same reason. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1600-1900
Length (as found): 34mm, Width (strip): 10mm, Thickness (strip, clear of knobs): 6.0mm, Weight: 21.46gms
Notes:
Kevin Woodward kindly suggests this to be a fragment of a decade ring.
