A complete Medieval - Post Medieval lead shield shaped weight, dating to AD 1350-1900. The weight is sub-triangular with rounded edges and a raised boarder on one face. The shield is worn and damaged with no surviving decoration. The pointed edge of the shield has been pierced.

Biggs and Withers (2000, p.34-6) suggest that shield-shaped lead weights were introduced in the second half of the 14th century AD and remained in use as late as the 17th, 18th and even 19th centuries.
