A cast copper alloy Post Medieval single looped buckle.
The buckle has a D-shaped loop with straight axis bar and then curved outer edge. This outer edge is expanded and wider than the axis bar which is narrow. Overall the frame is flat in cross section. The buckle has moulded decoration consisting three moulded roses, placed at the top and bottom of the axis bar and at the apex of the expanded frame. Between these are moulded vines and leaves.
The buckle has been slightly bent out of shape with its lower left corner being bent upwards to 90 degrees
The buckle has a dark green patina.
The buckle is 36.7mm long, 26.5mm wide, 3.0mm thick and weighs 6.78 grams.
The decoration and form of this buckle is very similar to double looped buckles illustrated by Whitehead (2003: 66) and dated to c. AD 1550-1650, such that a similar date appears appropriate for this example. It lacks the second loop of these and doesn't appear to be damaged.
