An incomplete late Medieval cast, copper-alloy buckle with composite plate c. 1350 – 1450.
Description: Originally a D-shaped frame (now damaged and distorted) with a notched lip on the front edge, curved sides and a slightly narrowed and recessed strap bar. The plate is formed from a single piece of 0.5mm thick, rectangular copper-alloy sheet that has been bent back on itself through 180 degrees. There is a central slot for the pin as it wraps around the strap bar and a central securing rivet still in place at the other end of the plate. The buckle has an even green patina.
