STRAP FITTING

Unique ID: NARC-C01C11

Object type certainty: Possibly
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A cast copper-alloy object, probably dating to the late Iron age or early Roman period. An open triangle of solid construction with sub-spherical knobs at the corners. One of the knobs is considerably larger than the others. There is evidence of damage in the form of a fracture in the frame between the two smaller knobs. Worn, with grey patina. Based on a similar artefact recorded on this database (ref. LEIC-B57246), this object possibly functioned as a strap junction or union. There is a further object, again recorded on this database (ref. SF-3AB401), found in Suffolk which shares the characteristics of this artefact even more closely than the first example. Unfortunately, this second example is undated without any function attributed.
