A medieval gold quarter noble of Edward III (1327-1377), Fourth Coinage - Treaty Period (1363-69), struck at the mint in Calais (North 1246). Ref: North 1991: 56.

Obverse: Shield Quartered with the arms of England and France within a tressure of eight arches with lis shaped terminals. Above the shield a cross 

EDWARD DEI GRA REX AnGL (unbarred A; double saltire stops between elements) 

 Reverse: Floriated cross with a lis at the end of each limb; in each angle a lion passant guardant; all within a tressure of eight arches. At the centre of the reverse cross is a voided quatrefoil.
