An incomplete copper alloy and corroded openwork mount of Post Medieval dating to c. AD 1600 - 1700.
The strap fitting has a worn triangular end that may have originally been a fleur de lis, above which an oval openwork base with lead shaped knops in between. The reverse is flat barring two projecting integral attachment spikes. both are circular in cross section and bend inwards towards the mount's centre. The lower spike terminates earlier than the first in a worn break.
The mount is a worn green colour.
The mount is 24mm long, 10mm wide 1.5mm thick excluding the lugs 2mm thick including them and weighs 1.54 grams.
Open works mounts similar to this are illustrated by Read (2001: 35, nos. 300-3) which he suggests date to the 17th century. Further examples on the database include WMID-A8B324, DENO-2FA948 and DENO-2FA948.
