CRUCIFIX

Unique ID: NARC-41EF91

Object type certainty: Certain

A worn cast copper-alloy fragment: the right arm from a figurine of Christ crucified ('Corpus Christi') associated with a medieval crucifix. The arm has a dark brown patina and has suffered an old break between shoulder and elbow. On the hand the thumb is moulded and fingers delineated. There is a circular perforation through the hand in order to nail the figure presumably to a wooden cross. A fragment such as this is difficult to date in isolation. The figure to which it belonged was probably over 100mm in length.
