Lead weight with central perforation, of unknown date. A 46.6mm diameter cast solid lead disc with a flattened underside and an irregular upper face - the thickness varies from 9.7 to 7.2mm. The upper surface has a broad rim within which is moulded decoration surrounding a countersunk central perforation. Unfortunately the decoration is worn and I am unable to tell what it may represent. The reverse is plain apart from a small shallow hole near the centre which may be a blowhole from the casting process. The object has a uniform light grey patination.
The item weighs 111.7g, so could conceivably have been used as a 4 ounce (113.4g) weight.
Simple lead weights like this were in use for a very long time, and this plough soil find does not have any context or distinguishing features which would allow it to be securely dated.
