Roman copper alloy brooch of Colchester derivative Polden Hill type, probably dating to c.75 - 150AD.
The brooch is missing its spring, pin, most of one wing and the terminal from the other, the foot and the catch plate.
The bow is humped, with a D shaped cross-section and a plain flat underside. The upper face is decorated with a central ridge which has transverse grooves giving a beaded effect. This is flanked by parallel grooves either side and tapers to an old break which has removed the catch plate and foot.
The spring case is damaged and a Mackreth class cannot be determined by this recorder.
As found it is 28.2mm long, 17.8mm wide and weighs 11.9grams.
