A worn copper-alloy Roman coin, possibly a sestertius of Titus (AD 79-81) or Nerva (AD 96-98), dating to the period c.AD 69-96 (Reece period 4). Reverse type depicting a large S C. Probably mint of rome.
This coin is of uncertain type. The apparent left facing bust is unclear, although perhaps looks Neronian or Flavian, similarly the reverse legend is largely illegible. Although these are Julio-Claudian bronze types with large SC reverses (e.g. for Tiberius and Caligula), these are typically for asses and even in its current state, this coin is larger and heavier. More plausible, perhaps, are the series of restoration sestertii issued by Titus in AD 80-81 (RIC II (2nd ed.), e.g. no. 416) or Nerva in AD 98 (RIC II, cf. p.233, no. 135), but this remains unclear.
The coin would need to be seen by the Finds Advisor to clarify the identification.
