A fragment of a Post-Medieval copper-alloy spur dating to c.AD 1600-1700.
The portion is composed of a D-sectioned arm with an integral figure of eight terminal loop. The arm narrows from its break to its terminal loop. The outer surface of this terminal loop is moulded such that the point of arm is accentuated between the loops. Each loop is 5.6mm in diameter.
The metal is dark green in colour.
The spur is 67.6mm long, 13.9mm wide at the loops, 3.7mm thick and weighs 9.71 grams.
Similar examples on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database include NARC-C31473,DENO-846943 and YORYM-6A07BA. Similar example have also been excavated from Beeston Castle, Cheshire (Ellis 1993: figs. 113-114) while read illustrates a similar example which he suggests date to the 17th century (Read 2001:65, fig.41 no.499).
