FINGER RING

Unique ID: WAW-28D095

Object type certainty: Possibly
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

The object is possibly a late Iron Age or Roman finger ring. As a finger ring the loop is quite chunky, and is oval in section, due to this the object could be considered as a harness fitting. The ring is made from cast copper alloy.

In plan the ring id a sub-D shape. Originally it was probably a ā€˜Dā€™ shape but this damage does not appear to be recent. The loop is oval in section and opposite the bezel is 5.85mm thick. The bezel is flat on the reverse and outer face compared to the loop, but has a off-centre oval voided with rounded edges. The surface of the ring is poor and abraded and there are small traces of a dark green/brown coloured patina.

The ring measures 24.3mm long from the bezel to the loop opposite, 26.83mm wide, and 10.37mm thick across the bezel. It weighs 13.5g.
