9 silver Roman Republican and early imperial denarii discovered scattered across the same area of equestrian pasture which had previously produced the 19 coins reported as SUR-EA4D41 (2019 T728). The date range (see below) spans a period of circa 101 BC – 16 BC from the earliest Republican denarius attributable to the moneyer M. Lucilius Rufus and dating to 101 BC, to the latest, two denarii of Augustus as emperor, dating to 19 – 16 BC.
As with the other coins in the hoard (2019 T728), a heavier degree of wear is seen on the earlier Republican coins suggesting contemporary circulation as a group. From their close spatial and chronological association it is likely that these coins were deposited, along with those reported previously, at some point during the AD 40s by either deliberate burial or as a result of a single purse or bag loss.
The coins demonstrate patches of black corrosion and sandy encrustation typically expected from prolonged burial in the acidic heathland sediments of the area. This post depositional damage is uneven and many of the coins remain in relatively good condition displaying clear detail.
