An incomplete copper-alloy cruciform brooch of Early-Medieval date, c.AD 475 – 550. Martin Type 2.
The head of the brooch is sub-rectangular with worn and broken edges to either side. It has a rectangular central panel to either side of which narrow wings extend.
A separately made top knob remains fitted to the head. The knob is circular with a narrowed waist and circular base. A sub-rectangular projection extends from one side of the base by which the knob is attached to the brooch proper.
A pin bar lug, obscured by iron corrosion, is present to the reverse of the headplate.
An integral curved bow extends from the centre of the base of the headplate. It is rectangular in section where it joins the plate and curved in transverse cross-section. The bow terminates in a worn break.
The brooch has a mid-green corroded patina. The object is 49.8mm long, 27.7mm wide, 9.4mm thick and weighs 16.7g.
