This year marks 15 years of the Portable Antiquities Scheme as a national scheme. Throughout the year we’ll be celebrating finds from each county – a find a day for the whole year! Here are the finds we’ve chosen on the theme of travelling and faraway places:
Modern tobacco pipe (BUC-282AE0): a ceramic tobacco pipe from Zambia.
Early Medieval brooch (WMID-D27DCC): a gold brooch from southern Scandinavia.
Post-medieval pilgrim pendant (YORYM-7CE642): a jet pendant representing pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
Post-medieval coin (CAM-517A84): a Chinese coin of the Kangxi reign, minted in Zhejiang.
Post-medieval coin (IOW-8596C9): a 3-Falus coin of Muhammad IV of Morocco.
Medieval coin (SWYOR-4A74F1): a 2 Gani coin of the Sultans of Delhi, India.
Medieval coin brooch (NMS-F0E038): an Italian silver grosso from Bergamo that has been turned into an annular brooch.
