PAS 15 – Finds from Staffordshire

This year marks 15 years of the Portable Antiquities Scheme as a national scheme. Throughout the year we’ll be celebrating finds from each county – a find a day for the whole year! Here are the finds we’ve chosen from Staffordshire:

Palaeolithic handaxe (WMID-2D3554): A complete knapped quartzite handaxe from the Lower to Middle Palaeolithic period.

Medieval handle (WMID-F5BBFC): A copper alloy drop handle with dog-headed terminal, from a medieval vessel.

Roman gaming piece (LANCUM-E6101C): A copper alloy gaming piece.

Post-medieval finger ring (WMID-5FE9CD): A copper alloy finger ring in the shape of a belt and buckle.

Roman spear butt (WMID-C0BA48): A copper alloy ‘door-knob’ spear butt from a Roman or Early Medieval spear.

Iron Age brooch (LVPL-2F47CD): A copper alloy penannular brooch.

Roman coin (LEIC-F39AF3): A nummus of Constantine II, minted in Antioch.
