This year marks 15 years of the Portable Antiquities Scheme as a national scheme. Throughout the year we’ll be celebrating finds from each county – a find a day for the whole year! Here are the finds we’ve chosen from Shropshire:
Medieval staff mount (WMID-902A21): a copper alloy mount from an ecclesiastical staff.
Iron Age brooch (HESH-B7DED5): a copper alloy La Tene II style brooch.
Neolithic axe hammer (HESH-191F76): a perforated axe hammer head made from picrite.
Medieval floor tile (HESH-0E5F4B): a ceramic floor tile depicting the Arma Christi or “Instruments of the Passion”.
Early Medieval hooked tag pair (HESH-24A9D4 and LVPL-A65F43): a silver mirrored pair of hooked tags in the Trewhiddle style. The tags were found separately, two years apart!
Iron Age fob (LVPL-78F55A): a copper alloy fob or dangler with a triskele motif.
Medieval mount (WMID-55BE81): a copper alloy mount in the shape of a dog or wolf’s head.
