This year marks 15 years of the Portable Antiquities Scheme as a national scheme. Throughout the year we’ll be celebrating finds from each county – a find a day for the whole year! Here are the finds we’ve chosen from Essex:

Post-medieval seal matrix (ESS-3BF212): a silver seal matrix depicting a 3-masted ship.
Medieval mount (ESS-7644A5): a gilded copper alloy decorative mount depicting a griffin.
Roman Samian ware sherd (ESS-6A0AED): a base of a Samian ware bowl stamped with ‘AMBITOV’.
Post-medieval dress pin (ESS-DDB4A7): a silver dress pin with ear scoop terminal.
Roman brooch (ESS-593DC4): silver Roman brooch in the shape of a dolphin.
Mesolithic lithic core (ESS-31EEBE): a lithic core c.10,000-4011BC.
Early Medieval terminal (SUR-0C90A0): a zoomorphic copper alloy strap-end or similar.
