PAS 15 – Finds from Durham

This year marks 15 years of the Portable Antiquities Scheme as a national scheme. Throughout the year we’ll be celebrating finds from each county – a find a day for the whole year! Here are the finds we’ve chosen from Durham:

Roman plate brooch (DUR-6AD3ED): a copper alloy brooch with enamel decoration of the ‘Dragonesque’ type.

Mesolithic debitage (DUR-0539D6): a series of flint flakes and production rejects dating to 9000-3450BC.

Medieval brooch (DUR-876052): a silver-gilt annular brooch with heraldic decorations.

Modern military badge (DUR-39434D): tin cap badge of the Light Infantry Regiment.

Anglo-Saxon scabbard mount (DUR-BA5975): a silver mount with gilding and garnet decoration.

Iron Age strap fitting (FAKL-19312B): a copper alloy strap fitting with enamel and glass decoration.

Medieval macehead (DUR-B9D6B8): a copper alloy macehead dating to AD1250-1400.
