This Headley Trust–funded Internship based at National Museum Cardiff is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about archaeology but has no qualifications, previous knowledge, or experience of archaeological artefacts, finds-recording, or museum work to gain experience in order to enter a career in archaeology or the museum sector.

There is a recognised lack of diversity within the workforce in both archaeology and museums, especially amongst people with disabilities, from low-income backgrounds, and from diverse ethnicities. We are keen to address this imbalance and therefore are open to applications from people who are following a non-traditional and non-academic progression route into heritage. We will recognise the value of fresh thinking and transferable skills and will value lived experience as a form of expertise.

To help you get to know a bit more about the roles and our work, we are offering:

Informal tours of our Museums.

Drop-in sessions to discuss the roles and what it’s like to work for us (in person or virtual, whichever suits you best).

Telephone discussions.

An opportunity to discuss any adjustments or support you may need to apply for any of the roles.

To apply, please complete a brief expression of interest form together with the vetting and equality monitoring form. Your expression of interest should outline:

why you would like this opportunity

why you are suitable

a little about yourself and your background

Please give Angelica Winter, HR Officer, a call on 029 2057 3346 (between 9am and 5pm) if you would like to find out more, or e-mail hr@museumwales.ac.uk

You don’t need to speak, write or understand Welsh for this role. Already speak Welsh? Here’s a chance for you to use your skills at work. Or, if you’ve lost confidence or want to learn Welsh, we'll help you with this.

We value skills in other languages, too – let us know what languages you speak in your application.

You are welcome to apply in Welsh; your application will not be treated less favourably.
