Headley Trust Internship Warwickshire & Worcestershire

Salary: £ 11 per hour

About the Headley Trust Internship

In both archaeology and museums, an issue with lack of diversity within the workforce has been identified (see Chartered Institute for Archaeologists and Museums Association) among those with disabilities, from low-income families, and from diverse ethnic backgrounds. This round of Headley Trust Internships contributes to the PAS Equality and Diversity Group strategy by providing opportunities for people from socially or economically disadvantageous backgrounds to gain experience to enter a career in archaeology or the museum sector. Priority will therefore be given for applications from candidates from these underrepresented groups.

Role overview

We are currently recruiting for an Intern as part of the Headley Trust Portable Antiquities Scheme, working across the West Midlands in seven local host museums.

Working alongside Museums Worcestershire, one of our regional partners, the successful person will be based at Worcestershire County Museum, Hartlebury Castle but you will have the opportunity to work across a range of other sites. You will be working to gain experience in small finds identification and recording, with the opportunity to conduct research into a project of your own choosing.

This role is part time with a flexible working pattern of 3 days a week (Monday-Friday) for 9 months. There may be occasional weekend work.

Please read the job description for more information about The Headley Trust and internship on offer, however no matter what your experience is, we will cater the internship to you to provide you with all-round knowledge and practise to ensure you leave with a portfolio to take into your next role.

Owing to the nature of the role we are ideally looking to recruit candidates with less than 6 months experience in archaeology, paid or unpaid. It is important that in your supporting statement on the application form you outline the following:

  • why you would like this opportunity
  • why you are suitable for the role
  • a little about yourself and your background

If you would like to have an informal discussion about the role, or would like to visit the areas of work please email Susheela.burford@birminghammuseums.org.uk or call 07727102453 and we will be happy to talk you through the role or help you to prepare your application.

Closing date for applications is 5th December 2021.

Interviews are likely to take place week commencing 13th December 2021
