Salary: £ 24,412

We are seeking a full-time Finds Liaison Officer to join a small team, which delivers the Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) across three counties in the south west of England. This new role will work five days a week, delivering the Scheme across the three counties, with a primary focus on Somerset, carrying out agreed recording tasks and providing cover as required.

The successful candidate will have a degree in archaeology or a related discipline, or considerable relevant experience and specialist knowledge of finds recording. You must have a flexible approach and be willing to work outside normal office hours e.g. to attend meetings. You will be working in a small team to deliver this service across the counties and will need strong co-operative skills and the ability to liaise and work closely with other team members.

As Finds Liaison Officer you will make contact with members of the public such as metal-detector users, explain the aims of the Scheme and the Treasure Act to the public and heritage professionals and identify, research and record finds on the Portable Antiquities Scheme's database.

The South West Heritage Trust works in partnership with Dorset Council, Devon County Council, the Royal Albert Memorial Museum (Exeter City Council) and Plymouth City Council to run this scheme across Somerset, Dorset and Devon.

The post-holder will be based at the Somerset Heritage Centre but will be required to travel throughout the three counties, including locations inaccessible by public transport, working some out of hours’ time. This travel will be financially supported as part of the role.

This is a fixed term appointment and continuation will be subject to the renewal of funding from April 2021.
