An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen to lead the delivery of the West Midlands Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) as Senior Finds Liaison Officer.

PAS is a scheme for the recording of archaeological objects found by members of the public. Established to promote the recording of chance finds, it broadens public awareness of the importance of such objects in our understanding of the past (for further understanding on this please visit: https://finds.org.uk/).

As a partner of the British Museum, Birmingham Museums Trust is responsible for delivering this scheme in the West Midlands region, incorporating the three areas of Worcestershire and Warwickshire (based in Worcester), Shropshire and Herefordshire (based in Ludlow), and Staffordshire (based in Birmingham).

As Senior Finds Liaison Officer, you will manage a team of three Finds Liaison Officers in locations across the region, as well as delivering the scheme in one of its three areas. You will be based in the area you are delivering the scheme but will report to Birmingham Museums and represent West Midlands PAS nationally to the British Museum.

We are looking for someone who ideally already has experience of the identification and recording of archaeological artefacts and of public engagement. You will bring a systematic and organised approach and be an effective manager, capable of leading, managing and motivating a team.

This position is part time (29.6 hours per week) on a fixed term contract (likely at least to March 2021, but with funding currently in place to March 2020. Please note that PAS has been running for over 20 year and is funded centrally through DCMS)
