Finds Liaison Officer Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Buckinghamshire

This job is no longer available, it expired on the Monday 14th March 2016

Salary: £ 20710-£22989

The Portable Antiquities Scheme is a voluntary scheme to record archaeological objects found by the public, including metal detector users, to advance archaeological knowledge and to increase opportunities for active public engagement in archaeology. This data is published on www.finds.org.uk and is made available to the nearest Historic and Environmental Record. This position is funded in partnership with the HLF, the Arts Council, the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, Milton Keynes Council and the Bucks County Museum Trust. The post is funded in the first instance for only 12 months which is the duration of the current contract.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in archaeology or a related discipline, or considerable relevant experience, together with experience of finds identification, recording and database entry, and public outreach work in a museum or archaeology environment. The post holder will be highly organised when working under pressure and to deadlines. A high level of PC literacy is key, in particular a sound knowledge of using databases, to allow effective recording of finds on the Schemes finds database. The PAS has run continuously since 1997 but funding is always under pressure. It is essential that the post holder has the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people and groups including metal detector users to explain the aims of the scheme and the Treasure Act.

The Bucks Post will be based at the County Museum Resource Centre at Halton near Tring. For an informal discussion please contact Ros Tyrrell – the existing post holder on 01296 624519 or email rtyrrell@buckscountymuseum.org.

Please down load an application form from the museum website at Recruiting – Bucks County Museum and return it to director@buckscountymuseum.org by 9am on Monday March 14th
