Julia Maesa was the grandmother of both Elagabalus and Alexander Severus. With her daughter, Julia Soaemias, she administered Elagabalus’ reign. She turned her support to Alexander Severus when it became clear that Elagabalus would not last long, but died in 224 having had less influence on Alexander’s regime.

Grandmother of both the Roman emperors Elagabalus and Alexander Severus, she figured prominently in the ascension of each to the title at the age of fourteen..
