Cast copper alloy strap fitting, cruciform-shape in plan with a central rounded terminal at one end, two incomplete lateral projections, and at the opposite end, two integral loops, one of which still retains part of the iron cross-bar. The fitting is decorated with gilded interlace, referred to as 'reticulate' which is highly distinctive of Irish metalwork, on each of the side projections. The central roundel has an incis…

Early Medieval copper alloy strap end. The strap end is Thomas Class A; type 2, with a tapering plate, split attachment end and zoomorphic terminal (Gabor Thomas, 2003, FRG Datasheet 32). The geometric incised decoration on the front of the plate is worn, but appears to be in the form of four diamonds, each arranged with its point to the centre, as if forming four 'petals'.
