<full>An incomplete Post Medieval cast lead Powder Flask cap, circa 1600 AD &#45; 1700 AD. One of the integral loops that attached the cap to a bandolier is missing. The cap secured the mouth of a flask, that held a single charge of gunpowder for a Musket. Sometimes up to twelve such flasks were attached to a bandolier and were referred to as &quot;Apostles&quot;. The images show the cap in its original as found condition, and also after restoration. It measures height 20.2mm, base diameter 19.02mm, and weight 25.2gms. The diameter of the attachment loop is 8.7mm, and its perforation 2.5mm. It is in fair condition.
An illustration of a Musketeer complete with Bandolier and Apostles attached ,can be seen in Gordon Bailey&#39;s &quot;Detector Finds 5&quot;, Greenlight Publishing 2002. pp22.</full>

KEY (LOCKING)</objecttype>
<descriptions>
<description>
<full>A Roman copper alloy Key handle in the form of a lion. The key handle has a large square shaped socketed shank with some iron staining around the inside and on the edges; part of the shank has been broken away. The iron art of the key is now missing. The shank becomes the head and front of the lion&#39;s body, with the lion&#39;s mane and forelegs. The interior is hollow. The lion has pronounced ears, an open mouth within a flat muzzle. The mane sweeps upwards and is crudely done in comparison to others on the database (BH&#45;E9670 , SWYOR&#45;F1D5D6). The forelegs of the lion are folded by its side, under its head and the paw is divided by a single line. The underside shows signs of wear along the length of the body.
The handle is 64.2mm long, 31.9mm wide, 17.4mm wide and weighs 99.55 grams.
Roman keys with lion handles have been found on a number of other sites in Britain, for example Fishbourne (Cunliffe 1971 p. 121 no. 144), Verulamium (Frere 1984 p. 47 no. 18) and Baldock (p. 136 no. 137). This object resembles the latter in style, dated to the third to fourth century. That at Fishbourne was in a context dated to 100 to 280 AD and is cruder in design.</full>

<full>An incomplete Post&#45;Medieval copper alloy cast buckle. It is trapezoidal in shape with a double&#45;looped frame. The frame is incomplete and retains one loop of the double loop frame, as well as the bar and pin. The reverse is flat and undecorated. The end is pointed and each corner terminates in an ovoid knop. There is a notch for the pin on the pointed loop, as well as a decorative line spanning the width. The bar is complete and terminates in lobed protrusions on both ends. The pin is incomplete and worn at the end, with some corrosion products. There is also some surface corrosion on the frame. This is like to date from c. 1620&#45;1680. Similar buckles may be found in Whitehead (1996) pg. 84, no. 523 as well as on the database LON&#45;71AB72; KENT&#45;D6F451.
